Washington Hawthorn Bare Root Bonsai Starters
Washington Hawthorn (Crataegus phaenopyrum) is a captivating deciduous bonsai from the Rose family (Rosaceae), cherished for its vibrant seasonal transformations. In spring and summer, it showcases lush green foliage that turns to a deep, consistent red in fall, adding a dramatic pop of color to any collection. With age and under the right conditions, mature specimens may reward you with delicate white flowers and striking red berries, enhancing the bonsai’s natural beauty.
These are bunches of 5x 1st-year bare-root starters. They will be shipped in a plastic bag with minimal soil.
You should plant the trees in bonsai soil as soon as you receive them, and protect from freezing temperatures until spring; 32-40F is a good temperature to maintain dormancy without damaging the seedlings. In warmer areas they can be potted and left outside without protection.
